Alternative coverage secured after non-renewal
How this closesHand in your document — Submitting it closes this step. We keep a copy for your record — we never file or submit anything for you.
Why this matters
Non-renewal is not a judgement on your business. In fire-exposed parts of this county it is a judgement on your zip code, and it has arrived for businesses with no claims history at all. Understanding that early matters, because the instinct is to feel singled out and wait, and waiting is the one thing that genuinely hurts you.
Going without cover is not an option even briefly. A lapse usually breaches your lease and your loan covenants, and either of those can end the business faster than a fire. The goal is continuous cover, even if the replacement is worse and dearer than what you had.
Before you start
Find the date your current cover actually ends and work backwards from it. California requires insurers to give advance written notice of non-renewal, and the required notice period is set by statute. Use the date on your notice rather than an assumed period. Not yet confirmed by LAEDC. Everything below is easier with ninety days and frantic with fifteen.
Get your loss history, your declarations pages and photographs of the property ready before you approach anyone. The same pack goes to every option, and having it assembled is what lets you move quickly.
The rest of this step is for LAEDC clients
