South LA is already home to the MLK Medical Campus, Charles R. Drew University and dozens of community clinics. Now picture what grows around them: research labs testing tomorrow's treatments, specialty centers people travel to reach, and health businesses owned by the people who live here.
That's what we're building: a home for metabolic health, the care that prevents and treats diabetes, heart disease and kidney disease. And every clinic, pharmacy, lab and health business that opens here means more jobs, more local owners and more wealth growing in South LA.
Diabetes is the top reason people visit MLK Community Hospital's emergency room. That demand is an invitation to build.
Every doctor's office is a small business that supports about 13 jobs. South LA has room for about 1,500 more doctors, which means thousands of new jobs, many paying around $25 an hour without a four-year degree.
The MLK Medical Campus, Charles R. Drew University, Compton College, CSU Dominguez Hills and more than 20 community health centers give new businesses a strong place to start.
When families get care close to home, the paychecks, contracts and business profits that come with that care stay in South LA too.

The deep dive maps three zones growing out from the MLK Medical Campus. Here is one picture of what each could hold.
A research lab where a Compton College graduate works as a lab technician, helping test the next generation of diabetes treatments.
A fertility and family-planning center where couples from across Southern California come for care, and spend the weekend eating at local restaurants.
A corner pharmacy in Lynwood where the pharmacist checks your blood pressure in five minutes and works with your doctor to adjust your medication, without you needing another appointment.
Different perspectives, shared purpose, a healthier Los Angeles. Whatever you bring, there is a seat for it.

Thinking about opening a practice, adding a location or investing in healthcare? South LA is ready for you.
Healthier families. Local owners. A South LA that grows on its own terms. What we build, and who benefits, depends on the people and institutions willing to help shape it. Here are three ways in.
