Why this matters
Nearly every city in Los Angeles County requires a business to register and pay a business tax before operating, regardless of size or revenue.
Operating without one risks penalties and back-tax assessments, and it will surface the moment you apply for anything else: a permit, a contract, a loan.
Before you start
Have your entity documents, EIN, business address, start date, and an estimate of gross receipts. Fees vary by city and by business category. Current fees not yet confirmed by LAEDC.
